Notes from the Fast Lane
Personal milestones, AI evolution, and creative tools that are shaping 2025
The year has kicked off with a bang! Between training for my first half marathon, celebrating birthdays, and looking for a new freelance project, it's been pretty busy. It took me four months to train for the half, and though it required intense focus and dedication, I realized something about myself: I work best with clear goals (e.g., 4 AM wakeup for Saturday runs). This structure is actually part of why I'm looking for a new project (think digital copywriting and content marketing). Speaking of structure—and while I search for that next opportunity—I'm committing to publish every week and sharing that commitment here (so you can hold me accountable!).
One of my favorite January activities was diving into the 2025 predictions. Several sources are declaring this the year of the robot, suggesting that hardware will merge with AI to bring mechanical dogs and household helper robots to life. To me, this feels like a natural evolution of what's coming. After all, we're already living in a Jetsons-like reality with self-driving cars and ghost kitchens. As I've said before: the genie is out of the bottle. There's no turning back—we can only learn to tame the genie and partner with it.
On a more colorful note, I always enjoy Pinterest's predictions, especially regarding design trends. I love the current shift toward warm colors, like Pantone's 2025 color of the year "Mocha Mousse," and the light sunshine yellow making its way into some of our favorite brands. As our lives become increasingly AI-tinged, I believe creators and designers will gravitate toward earthier tones and warmer, more tactile experiences.
Recently, I was chatting with a Creative Director friend and former advertising colleague about "knowing how to use AI to strengthen what we do." Because ultimately, our core skill sets remain crucial: we're still the visionaries, the orchestra conductors, the editors, and curators. These new tools simply allow us to bring our visions to life with greater speed and efficiency. She was specifically looking for tools to help record meetings and create decks for a creative side project, so naturally, I shared some promising options: Otter AI and Gamma app.
Otter AI is a platform that transcribes meetings, creates summaries, and generates action items—I wish I'd had this in journalism school! It's like having an assistant in your pocket. Gamma app helps you build decks, presentations, and websites. Again, all you need is an idea and some content, and boom! These tools help you create content in a jiffy.
Winning products, rather, will be those that offer a *bridge* from the world of human work to the world of software work, making us feel comfortable and in control along the ride.

Congrats on completing your half-marathon, Karina!
